Wonder

Our eyes meet across a crowded hallway, you're jostling books as the surging tide of humans bodies flows around you, while I'm trying to coordinate homework study time with my friend while balancing my coffee cup and math books all at once. You wink as you turn to go, as if you have some great secret hidden from mankind. I laugh to myself as I watch your back fade into the masses.

I've seen you before, at distances covered more easily by steps then words. You're that guy, the one who always studies in the far room of the cafeteria while drinking scalding coffee that makes you whistle through your teeth when you touch the cup. The one who sits in the front of the classes and occasionally has a random discussion with our politics teacher. I don't know your name, but I have often wondered about you. I've imagined that you are a history major, and you travel on your summer breaks to learn more about your field first hand. Or that you're secretly the son of a famous politician and you're trying to keep your own history under cover.

I wonder if someday we'll randomly bump into each other and have coffee at some weathered shop. Somehow, I rather keep you at arms length, and imagine what you are and what you'll become.
