Random Thoughts
Perhaps it is through losing what we consider important and precious that we stop and take a good look at our own lives. Often we create patterns, after all we are creatures of habit, and once those patterns are broken or diverted in some way we feel lost. As if we have been stranded in the middle of some gigantic ocean of wheat - only to realize we have no idea where we are or what we are doing. There is comfort in familiarity, yes. Knowing that when I get home from school today, that my house will be there, my room, my family, and other things in my life, is comforting. Knowing that unless something drastic happens, it will remain the same, that is comforting. It is something that I am familiar with, something that I know and thus it doesn't surprise me in some unpleasant way.
It is when that familiarity is broken that things change. The road that was predictable and somewhat smooth turns into some rocky mountain terrain in moments. Suddenly you are stranded without a map. Now for the adventurous souls this is most exciting and invigorating. However, for most of humanity these are the moments that we panic, throw our hands in the air and scream like small children. Though, we may complete all these hysteric actions within our heads, meanwhile maintaining a confident front in order to convince those around us that we are in control of our lives.
Most days our lives form a routine - and often we don't realize how much we appreciate or enjoy that routine. Until one day, we awake, only to realize that all we had is now gone. As much as you might lose that horrible boss of yours, that nagging friend, create a masterpiece, travel the world, try a new destiny, It isn't as glamourous as it seems. There is a lot of soul searching in those morning moments. Many times you will question your existance, the reason you do things, why you have changed.
Despite all the negitivity of this - there are positive sides to change. To breaking out of the rut of familiarity and habit. You learn to appreciate things more, things that you merely took for granted before, and you take a deep breath and look at your own life and measure it up. But, a word from the wise, or the learning, don't break familiarity too often, there is a blessed peace and belonging in what was once considered a habit.
